March for Babies

This weekend we participated in the March of Dimes' March for Babies.  While walking three miles isn't normally a big deal for us, it wasn't high on the list of fun things to do when we woke up to this sight:

Yep, that was May 18.  As of Saturday, we officially had the longest "snow season" in recorded history in Anchorage - 232 days.  That means it was snowy or capable of snowing for most of the last year.  Ugh.  The small upside is that it beat the record by a lot, meaning this isn't normal weather by any means.

The March for Babies was at Westchester Lagoon - a lake/park near downtown that we often drive by but have never been to.  When we showed up, Ripley was not happy with all of the waiting around.

Neither were David's kids, Gabrielle and Julia.  Gabrielle really didn't want me to photograph her.  In fact, I don't think she really wanted to be at the walk.  I don't think the snow helped that.

Julia (and every other child in attendance) was all about Ripley.  He was a fan of her, too.

While we waited for everyone to register, people were dancing and warming up in the snow.  They were much more enthusiastic than we were. (Though I was pretty excited about the t-shirt and water bottle we got for raising $300!)

Isn't this the most adorable thing you've ever seen?  Where can I get a snowsuit like that in my size?

This was the look on Andy's face for the whole three miles:

Ripley enjoyed the attention.  He could have cared less that it was freezing outside.  He even tried to swim in the lagoon at one point.

Finally we got to walk - Ripley stayed approximately 10-20 feet ahead of us at all times:

Here's the team! We even had a banner!

We all survived despite the weather and a couple of child meltdowns.  At the end we were rewarded with free hot dogs and Ripley got even more attention which he loves.  Thanks to everyone who donated! We had a great time and we'll definitely be back.  Hopefully next year it won't snow!

Right now it's beautiful outside, which is a good thing because our first round of company is coming on Wednesday! Yay! The Naylor B&B is open for business!
