So after our little heatwave, the cold came back with a vengeance. No snow, though, because I think it's actually too cold to snow. I think the warmest it got this weekend, according to the thermometer tacked to the side of our house, is 3. THREE DEGREES. Note that 32 is "freezing," so this is just outright frigid! Most people would just stay inside when it's this cold, but we have a dog that demands to be exercised. Yesterday we took the lazy route and threw the frisbee around for him, but today we decided to be nice and take him for a walk up at hilltop. He. Was. Thrilled.
He still hates the jacket and we haven't made him wear it in weeks, but he really doesn't mind the shoes anymore, especially since it was 15 below when we took him out. (That's -26 celsius to those of you who use a more logical method of measuring temps. I'm trying to be more international now that blogger tells me I have readers outside the U.S. The Czechs apparently love me.)
Ripley's not the only hardcore one in Alaska. There were skiers out today! (obviously not many) Even little kids going to ski school! I guess since the kids wear shorts when it's warmer than 35* outside, I shouldn't be surprised.
Awesome side effect of it being THIS cold outside - when you breathe, you make icicles on your face:
The eyelashes are the best part!
I even let Andy take a picture of me. At one point, the frost was so bad on my eyelashes my eyes wouldn't open.
My hat is all black. All the white is frost from my breath! |
We had a fun time walking around, even though it was SOOOOO COLD.
It didn't get above zero today, so I'm pretty proud of us that we even made it outside. Thankfully the weatherman says it's supposed to get back into the 20s and 30s this week, which sounds downright balmy compared to the weather this weekend! Can't wait!
After we went to Hilltop, we drove by our new house like creepy stalkers. Less than a month until we close. We can't wait!
Happy Sunday!
