Back on the road!

Yesterday I left Oregon and headed up to spend a couple of hours with Lauren and Garrett in Seattle while I waited for Andy to fly in from Alaska. I don't know how I got the brilliant idea to meet him in Seattle, but it really helped the drive today. One thing that didn't help was the fact that he landed in Seattle just after midnight and we planned to hit the road EARLY. Thankfully Lauren and Garrett were gracious enough to let us crash at their place for a couple of hours.

After getting about three amazing hours of sleep, we took off at about 4:30 a.m. this morning. We hit the border before 6:30 and quickly found our way up through B.C. Nothing like spending the 4th of July in Canada, right? So then we drove...and drove...and drove...and after about 16 hours of driving, we landed in Smithers, BC.  If you want to learn some more about Smithers, go here.

Smithers is really cute, lots of mountains and trees and plenty of places to stay and eat, basically all we need. Tomorrow will be another long day in the car. We are hoping to make it all the way to Whitehorse, YT. If we hit our goal, we should be in Anchorage by Friday evening!

Sorry for the lack of pictures - we didn't take many and didn't really come across anything worth the photo op...no animals except for cows and horses and no major scenic items we didn't see on the last trip. So far, taking the western route via the Cassiar Highway (which we'll officially hit tomorrow) is much prettier than jogging east to the ALCAN in Dawson Creek, so even if we don't save distance or time, it's something better to look at.
